The boys are continuing to grow and have gotten very active. They also have teeth now, so Muse isn’t sure she likes them anymore. Luckily they are pretty into eating regular food at this point so they don’t miss her too much. They’ve had some play time with Grandma Maya and their Aussie “sister” Silk this week also.
The boys are getting more active. We keep changing out their play equipment to give them different experiences. Last week they had the sit-and-spin toy outside, where they could play on it without having it move under their feet. This week I moved it into the kitchen and they started running on and off it right away. In the outside pen, they have a K9 Fitbone, which they play on a lot. Yesterday we added the tippy board and it has already become part of their play routine.
This is a confident bunch of puppies, which is good because they had an experience that could have been traumatic this week. During the storm on Sunday night a very large tree fell onto the house. The fence was damaged, the deck destroyed, and we have minor damage to the house. The tree landed on the open window just above the puppy pen, but the little guys weren’t phased at all. The tree has been removed and the yard is usable, but things will be challenging until the deck can be replaced, since that is the dogs’ normal route to the yard.
The puppies are eating dry puppy food now but still visit the milk bar a few times a day. They are doing well at using the litter box and are developing a preference for doing business outside. This week they will start spending some time individually crated.
Here are some photos of this week’s adventures.
The boys have had a busy week. They have been going outside several times each day into a puppy pen with some enrichment items, like a metal grate, a sit-and-spin, and a cardboard box filled with empty water bottles. Each week we will switch out some of the items in the pen. The outside pen is next to the pen I use to exercise my angora bunnies. The first time I had a rabbit outside at the same time as the boys they showed a lot of interest- they don’t know why they are interested yet, but there was a lot of air scenting.
Outdoor time is usually right after meal time, so the pups are learning to do business outside. When they are inside, they are showing a strong preference for the litter box. This week they have progressed quickly from gruel to regular puppy food that has been well soaked (not much in the way of teeth yet). They are still nursing also, but they like the idea of solid food.
The puppies got a new big sister this week. Dave flew to Texas and picked up his new Aussie girl. Her name is Silk and she is a 10 week old blue Merle.
This week the boys are really starting to become more interactive. They are playing with objects and each other more. I’ve continued to introduce new things to the pen on a regular basis and started letting them spend time on different surfaces.
They’ve started drinking some milk replacement from a pan and I’ve seen some of them drinking from Muse’s water bucket. We are starting to see them make the choice to go to the litter box for potty breaks already.
As they get more active photos are more challenging, but here’s a few new ones.
